Artist Statement
‘Miniatures cause us to daydream, and in our daydreams we bring them to life.’ Esther Rosser
The miniature for me is the ultimate plaything and a vehicle for us to regress back into childhood. The reduction of scale invites us in closer and provides a notion of curiosity and wonder in the fictional world we are visiting. As viewers however we are unable to step into this Lilliputian world and we are reminded that as adults, we can never be a child again.
The paradoxical statement, ‘bitter-sweet’ therefore is the fundamental element to my work. The miniscule sculptures I create from plasticine and natural materials are fragile and precious; haunting and otherworldly.
